SOMERSET ISD FINE ARTS MISSION
To promote and support fine arts education and educators through collaboration, innovative curricula, and the sharing of best practices so that every child in Somerset ISD is assured of receiving quality instruction in the understanding, appreciation, and performance of the arts.
PROGRAMS
Our fine arts courses offer many benefits that are indispensable and integral components of a balanced curriculum/whole child approach in Somerset ISD. Our students have completed high school with experiences that have enriched their lives through the study of the arts. We believe that all students deserve a well-balanced education which includes quality fine arts instruction in all our schools that is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenging.

Visual Arts
Visual arts education is the area of learning that is based upon the kind of art that one can see, visual arts—drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and design in jewelry, pottery, weaving, fabrics, etc.
Band
The music curriculum comprises listening and responding, performing and composing activities. Focused listening is emphasised, both for its sheer enjoyment potential and for its essential role in composing and performing.
Dance
Dance is a performing art form consisting of sequences of movement, either improvised or purposefully selected. This movement has aesthetic and often symbolic value. Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period or place of origin.
Mariachi

Theater Arts
Theatre is a collaborative art form which combines words, voice, movement and visual elements to express meaning. The field of theatre encompasses not only live improvised and scripted work, but also dramatic forms such as film, television and other electronic media.
