Somerset ISD Savannah Heights students recently participated in the Book Blast program, a literacy initiative offered by Books Are Fun, designed to place at least one new book in the hands of every student. The program reached out to the broader community, inviting friends, family members, and others to contribute to students’ accounts through the Book Blast website, with 100% of donations directly funding new books for students.
Through the generosity of the extended school community, students were able to earn up to 10 free books based on the contributions made to their individual accounts. As donations increased, so did the number of books awarded, sparking excitement among the students eager to grow their personal libraries.
With the Book Blast event now complete, students received their books last week. This special delivery from staff and officers will not only hopefully encourage reading but also celebrate the power of community support in fostering a love for literacy.
