This week’s #TeacherFeature is Ms. Randi Aguero from SSGT Michael P. Barrera Veterans Elementary ✨
Students proudly waved their thumbs up in the air to signal Ms. Aguero they are ready for the next math problem. The 4th grade class worked in groups to solve addition and subtraction equations. Lucky few were able to present their findings to their peers on the SmartBoard.
“I love teaching,” said Ms. Aguero. “The days are never the same and you get to learn new things and teach new things.”
This is the young educator’s third year in Somerset and eighth year in teaching.
“The kids are the best,” Ms. Aguero said. “They work really hard and participate in class.”

This week's #TeacherFeature is Mr. Jeremy Cardenas from Somerset High School!
Mr. Cardenas's Visual Art 3& 4 classes spent a meditative hour making gestural charcoal drawings. Students chuckled as they drew portraits of their neighbors, using their fingers to smudge lines.
"This activity encourages students to use movement in their approach without hesitation," said Mr. Cardenas, hoping to inspire fearless artists. It also improves their observational skills, which they can apply to any aspect of life."
Mr. Cardenas has taught art for the past ten years in Somerset ISD. He received a degree in business and finance when he took an art class last semester and fell back in love with art. He then pursued an alternative teaching certification to become an educator and jumped at an opening for an art teacher at Barrera Veterans Elementary.
"Art has always been there for me and came naturally," explained Mr. Cardenas. "I hope my students see art everywhere, in science, business, or any aspect of their life. I hope they take that technicality and creativity with them. And don't forget your ABC's, "Always Be Creating." #StudentCentered #SomersetArt

Teacher Feature
Join us in congratulating our next #TeacherFeature, Ms. Laura Sauceda, at Somerset Early Childhood Elementary
Ms. Laura Sauceda’s cheerful classroom rang loud with energetic chatter, giggles, and student engagement as each student participated in round-table activities. The Kindergarteners learned about alliteration and how to recognize and sound out letters. The little Bulldogs were tasked with finding words with the same first letter in their names.
“I do this because this is my joy,” said Ms. Sauceda, who has taught for over 24 years. “These children impact our future.”
The alumna has taught every grade level from Pre-Kindergarten to first grade and has a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. She’s an SHS Bulldog class of 1989 and is happy to be back home.
“I want the best for my students,” she says with a smile. “They are my world. I’m their school mom. When I’m asked how many children I have, I say 21.”

Teacher Feature
Join us in congratulating our first #TeacherFeature of the year Ms. Emily Beltran at Somerset Elementary School
Ms. Beltran’s vibrant personality radiates throughout her classroom as students listen intently and eagerly respond with answers to Wednesday’s phonics lessons. Together, the class sounded out words using their hands to emphasize pronunciation.
“I like being a part of the foundation piece of learning,” said Ms. Beltran. “Watching them grow and move on to the next grade is awesome. They’ll come back and tell me about their successes and what reading level they achieve.”
This is the third year for the first-grade educator. Ms. Beltran began her educational journey by choosing to student teach with Somerset ISD.
“Somerset puts in a lot of hard work and dedication to its students,” she explained. “I love to work with the kids and build my relationships with them. I want them to see my class as a space that’s a home away from home because, for some, they don’t have it.”
